The former military officer served between 1946-1955 and again from 1973-1974, in the process becoming the most influential politician in his country’s history. He implemented policies that expanded labor rights through wage increases and social welfare, but also stirred controversy through political repression and censorship.

🇧🇷 Microsoft will invest $2.71B into developing AI and cloud infrastructure over the span of three years. The tech multinational will also train 5M people in the country with AI skills over the next three years, growing Brazil’s tech literacy and developing its competitive edge.

Latinometrics: Artificial intelligence is all the rage right now, and teaching digital skills to Brazilians (such as the important work being done by our friends over at Vai Na Web, is a way to ensure the country’s more sustainable development. One study has placed Brazil’s GDP growth prospects with greater AI adoption at between 1.8-4.2% through 2030, meaning the country could see untold economic benefit from smart use of this transformative technology.

🇩🇴 The Dominican Republic has seen an average economic growth rate of 5.1% so far this year, the highest year-on-year growth in all of Latin America. The country grew by about 5.6% in just August, helped by effective fiscal and monetary policies as well as the expansion of free-zone manufacturing and construction.
